Duckington’s Wonder Emporium is a first person puzzle platformer made in Unreal Engine 4. Players must locate three artefacts and return them to the atrium to retrieve the coveted diamond. To navigate the puzzles in each room players utilise a grapple gun, that allows them to swing from metal objects, as well as a time-turner that slows time for short periods.
The game was produced by four developers; James Bates, Sandeep Kainth, Matt Stevens and myself. While much of the development was a collaborative process, much of my work was in feature and level design. I produced the hazard asset functionality and checkpoint system, including lasers which had to be effected by the time manipulator. I also produced the layout for final stage of the game, where players are required to combine their knowledge and tools from the first two levels to collect the final artefact.
Working on Duckington’s Wonder Emporium was an interesting learning experience as it was my first collaborative UE4 project. I particularly enjoyed the combination of creating puzzling environments and a whimsical aesthetic.
